Caroline Polke - (she/her)

My name is Caroline Polke-Thodsen and I am a 27-year-old director of fiction and experimental film from Denmark. Prior to coming to the HFBK I graduated from my bachelor’s degree in History of Ideas at Aarhus University. I have 12 years of experience with filmmaking, having touched most aspects of filmmaking – especially sound design. Today I write and direct and have directed 4 short films the past 6 years. I love to explore themes of alienation and sexuality through film. I am interested in normative expectations we have for each other and for ourselves. My films depicts women or queer people having difficulties meeting the expectations they feel they have to meet. I am passionate about creating complex and poetic cinema and I love cinema the most when it’s kitsch, theatrical, exaggerated, strange, vulnerable and tender.
